Sporting Highlights – up to 10 March 2017
This week, Jasmine H received an England call-up to represent her country in the European Championship in Porto, Portugal in April. This is her 4th cap for England. We also wish her luck in the Nationals that start today (Friday 10 March) in Birmingham!
Saturday saw the most successful block of fixtures in recent times for the Hockey Club. A clean sweep of four wins came against King Edward's, Witley, with the teams scoring 23 goals and conceding only 2. The 1st XI won 7-0, the 2nd XI won 8-1, the U15A team won 3-1 and the U14A team won 5-1.
For the U14A team, it has been an excellent week. Captain Noah M writes: This week the team really pulled its socks up. Against KES Witley, the team showed real improvement to win 5-1. The star of the show was one man and this man is Charlie G. He put on an exhibition in goal scoring. The first was a top right flick on the run. The second was a screamer into the top right of the goal. Charlie aside, other goals came from Isaac A and Ted E. The match ended 5-1 to Lancing. Then against Bede's, the level of hockey just kept getting better. A 3-1 win was recorded with some excellent attacking play on show.
It’s been a typically busy week for the Netball club with pretty much all teams seeing action. In the triangular fixtures against Bede's and Fettes College, the 1st V beat Bede's 17-12 (MVP Rosanna W) and then beat Fettes 17 – 8 (MVP Elise K). It was an equally successful block for the U16A team who beat Bede's 19-1 (MVP Anna F) and then Fettes 18-10 (MVP Bella M). On the same day, the U15A team beat Bede's 31-7 (MVP Sophie A-B).
On Tuesday, the U16A team then took part in the SISNA tournament. The girls came so close with wins over Christ’s Hospital, Bede's, Ardingly and Mayfield. Despite a monumental effort against Hurst, the girls lost 7-5; a different result here could well have seen the title come home to BN15.
On Thursday, Hurst provided the opposition. The U15C team made it three in a row with some fantastic defensive skills from Olesia G. Selena K scored the winning goal on the final whistle to give the girls a tight 12-11 win. Prin C was excellent in all areas and secured the girl of the game award.
In the 2nd team game, Phoebe D-C and Luiba V dominated the circle to give Lancing a 24-17 win. Great centre work from Isabelle McM, Olivia L and Georgia C kept the ball away from our net. The all-imposing Jedida D and Amelia L-W pressured the Hurst girls in defence to secure the win. MVP went to Phoebe D-C for her golden shooting.
Against Charterhouse last Thursday there were outstanding performances from all 22 swimmers. This secured Lancing’s victory, winning by 41 points to 26. In total, Lancing won 16 of the 19 events.
Thanks go to Grace B, Ben B and Faris K from Lancing Prep Worthing for helping the U14 swimmers, and also to Nigel W, Ethan A-H, Sumin K, Cameron K, Selena K, John M, Ella P, Walter C and Anthony L in their debut team outings for the juniors and seniors. The regular swimmers of Jeff L, Hannah E , Luca I R, Max H, Miles H, Grigory V, Charlie B, Esme A-K, Jade B and Jana M all swam strongly.
Team of the Week
With three clear winners, there is no need for a vote this week. The girls' award goes to the U16A Netball Team, and the boys' award goes to the U14A Hockey team.
