Sporting Highlights - up to 3 March 2017
Further congratulations go to Tiana F who in the Half Term break represented the Sussex U18 Tennis team. Tiana played at number 2, so was playing the 2nd best player from all the other counties. It was a very successful event that saw her win all three singles and all three doubles rubbers. As a result, the Sussex team won promotion to Division Two.
We also take time this week to report on OL Ashley Lumbard. Ashley (along with Rosie Scott) was Fives National Girls' Champion in 2006 and 2007. She has just this weekend reached the final of the National Ladies' competition and we wish her all the best in her pursuit of winning that title
The U15 team took part in the Sussex tournament on Wednesday. In finishing third in its group, the team beat Angmering 2-0, lost to Hurst and Ardingly and then beat Oathall 2-0. Top goal scorer on the day was Barnaby J-D, with Ted E, Harvey K and Freddie V B adding the others.
On Tuesday against Shoreham College, the U15C team made a great start to the game with several goals by Selena K. Throughout the match there was excellent defensive play from both Amelia M and Cecily M which, combined with the rest of the team's hard work and determination, led to a well-deserved victory of 19-7. MVP was awarded to Selena K.
After a quick Chicken Korma at dinner the Worthing League team took on ‘Team Galaxy’. Following a MILD start the girls brought a bit more SPICE in the second half. Taylor Z PILAU out for the centre passes and Lydia B and Anna F's shooting was on point, as they missed NAAN. The girls kept their calm through a close match, there was no BHAJI-ing, resulting in a 46-35 win. Mr Crowe added that it was nice to see the girls RICE to the occasion.
On Thursday, the U15 team took on Wellington College in the last 32 of the National Cup. Sam N and Ted E started things off with comfortable 3-0 wins. Ollie D dug deep to take his opponent to five sets before losing in a close match. Jonah B and Anje B both won comfortably 3-0 to seal the win and put Lancing through to the last 16. The next match against Langley Park is all that separates the team from the National finals.
Team of the Week
This week the co-ed award goes to the U15 squash team and the girls' award goes to the vote, with the U15C and Worthing League Netball teams battling it out.
