All forms of sport keep pupils fit, build character and help to develop a healthy competitive spirit – qualities which are always useful, wherever you want to go in life.
We encourage all our pupils, boys and girls, to compete to the best of their ability, from school competitions to national level.
Football is the principal team sport for boys in the Advent Term while the girls play hockey. In the Lent Term the girls play netball and the boys hockey; in the Summer Term the boys play cricket and tennis, and the girls play tennis and rounders.
We also have very strong swimming squads, especially the girls who are the dominant team in Southern England. Squash has a long history at Lancing with many county players being based at the College. We regularly have great success at the Fives National Schools Championships.
Lancing is not only surrounded by extensive playing fields, but is also set in countryside that gives ample scope for cross-country running, sailing and canoeing.
The sports hall is immediately adjacent to the 25-metre indoor swimming pool. There are three squash courts, four Eton fives courts, a multi-gym in a purpose-built weight training room, a smaller all-weather pitch and a new full-size all-weather pitch, all-weather cricket nets, six grass tennis courts and a further 22 hard courts available. The PE department includes a well-equipped dance studio (which is also used for fencing and martial arts).
Lancing excels at several sports: football, tennis, swimming, hockey, squash and fives are particularly strong.
